Blue Lights actor Nathan Braniff joins NI Hospice as Official Ambassador

Northern Ireland Hospice is delighted to announce that acclaimed actor Nathan Braniff has joined the charity as an official Ambassador, strengthening its mission to deliver specialist palliative care and support for people living with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.

Braniff, best known for his role as rookie officer Tommy Foster in the hit BBC police drama Blue Lights, brings both his public profile and personal passion for compassionate care to the role.

His appointment comes after his beloved grandfather received specialist palliative care in the Hospice’s In-Patient Unit at Somerton Road, where he passed away in early 2025. Nathan and his family have spoken warmly of the comfort, dignity, and support provided by the Hospice team during that time.

As an Ambassador, Nathan will help raise public awareness of Northern Ireland Hospice’s services, champion fundraising efforts, and inspire people across Northern Ireland to get involved. His strong communication and public-speaking skills, combined with his personal experience of Hospice care, make him a powerful advocate for the charity’s mission.

Nathan Braniff said: “Becoming an Ambassador for Northern Ireland Hospice is a real honour for me and my family. The care my grandad received in the In-Patient Unit was extraordinary – compassionate, respectful, and delivered by people who treated him with genuine warmth. I’ll never forget the comfort they gave us during such a difficult time.

“I’ve seen first-hand the difference this place makes, and I want to do whatever I can to help more families access that same level of care and support. Whether it’s raising awareness, encouraging donations, or simply showing up to spend time with patients and staff, I’m committed to standing alongside the Hospice’s doctors and nurses and championing the incredible work which they do every day.”

Welcoming the new Ambassador, NI Hospice’s Chief Executive Trevor McCartney said: “Nathan’s determination to amplify the Hospice’s vital work has been clear from the outset. He has already made two informal visits to the In-Patient Unit, meeting with patients, families, and staff to lift spirits and show his continued support.

“Nathan’s commitment to compassionate care and community involvement will be of invaluable benefit to our mission. His family’s personal experience of Hospice services, coupled with his authenticity and public presence, is expected to inspire many others to connect with and support our charity’s work.”
